Avon |
We often stop at Avon to watch trains. There is a great public space east of the tracks where the old Depot once stood at the corner of Depot and Cortland. The track here is single with an industrial siding. It is possible to see north bound signals from this corner while a hike farther north is needed to see the southbound signals. The north edge of Avon is the start of a long passing siding that often has trains sitting. There is a restaurant, grocery and convenience store to provide food.
The old depot has been moved to the park on the north edge of Avon.
Trains are common and if your timing is good you will see one of the 4 Amtrak trains which travel this line each day. South of here at Bushnell is where the line splits, some to Quincy and some to Beardstown.
