Where are the buildings today?
This will be slow until the weather is better and we can get out and take pictures.
Knox County Fairgrounds - An 1890's horse barn and a barracks moved to the grounds from W.W.II Camp Ellis still stand
Mendon Schools - The use of Army surplus buildings, moved here from Camp Ellis near Macomb (Not sure if they survive)
Camp Emmanuel - In the 1940's, two army barracks were acquired from Fort Ellis near Ipava and moved to the camp. Six cabins were also moved from Camp Ellis in sections and reconstructed on their present locations. Camp Ellis served as a German POW camp during WW II. Original German writing is still evident in the main lodge.
Lincoln, IL Heritage-In-Flight Museum - uses a Camp Ellis barracks
The Library now has over 3.000 books, some of them donated by the Camp Ellis library when the camp was dismantled, all double card filed
Good morning: One of my cousins, Ronald , purchased a building from Camp Ellis, which he made into a home. He told me it was an officers club building. We bought the house from him in 1965. This past week we started redoing the electrical wiring. When the old fuse box was taken off the basement wall and the board that it was mounted to was turned around, there was a sign painted on the board. It was Marauders Den. Do you know if this came from Camp Ellis? I feel like it probably did but would like to know for sure. Would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you. Nola
